In 2025, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University hosted the XVII Republican Subject Olympiad for higher education students within the educational program "6B015 – Training of Biology Teachers." Based on the competition results, students G.A. Kadyr and A.Zh. Daurenbekova, representing the "6B01505 – Training of Biology Teachers" program, were awarded Third-Degree Diplomas.
The Head of the Department of Biology, Associate Professor and Candidate of Biological Sciences G.K. Ziyayeva, emerged as a winner in the competition for grant funding for the commercialization of highly promising scientific and technical projects for 2025–2027. She serves as the Principal Investigator for project DP25900539: "Implementation of agrotechnologies for the cultivation of drought-resistant and high-yielding sorghum with subsequent processing into grain in the southern region of Kazakhstan."
Furthermore, Senior Lecturer A.A. Karabayeva secured grant funding under the "Zhas Galym" (Young Scientist) program for 2025–2027. She is the Principal Investigator for project AP25794577: "Development of an eco-friendly system for apple tree protection against fruit mites in the conditions of Southeast Kazakhstan."
As part of Research and Development (R&D) initiatives, the department has concluded three contractual projects with industrial partners:
1.IE "Kazakbayev Seisenbek Zaurbekovich": "Key quality indicators of grain."
2.FE "Alatau": "Organic-based biological fertilizers."
3.LLP "Zhambyl Honey": "Development and implementation of innovative methods aimed at increasing honeybee productivity and enhancing the quality of apiculture products in the Zhambyl region."
During the first half of the 2025–2026 academic year, the department faculty published a significant volume of research, including:
5 articles in the Scopus database;
1 article in the RSCI (Russian Science Citation Index) database;
9 articles in journals recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education (CQASHE);
19 articles in national (Republican) journals;
28 publications in international conference proceedings;
17 publications in national conference proceedings;
2 collaborative articles with representatives of foreign universities.
In terms of intellectual property, the department secured 2 patents and 5 copyright certificates.
