Department mission
The roots of the department begin in 1963 from the department of "General Engineering Disciplines" of the Jambyl branch of KazSTI. In this year, the branch of KazSTI was reorganized into the Jambyl Institute of Light and Food Industry. The first head of the department was Mosalev V.P. (1963-1970).
From 1970, the department was headed by Kuatbekov M.K., a young educated heat engineer who defended his candidate's dissertation at the Leningrad TI named after Lensovet, Russia (scientific supervisor — Corr. Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Romankov P.G.). Kuatbekov M.K. made a great contribution to the development of the department and performed great work in preparing highly specialized personnel for the department, having trained 20 doctors and candidates of sciences.
In 1978, the department was divided into two: "Heat and Electrical Engineering" (Head of Department Kerimsheev M.R.) and "Automation of Production Processes" (Head of Department Tasbolatov Temirkhan Dzhumaseitovich). In 1980-1981, the work on preparing the faculty and teaching staff was continued in higher educational institutions of leading countries: MEI, LTI, MIKHM, MTI, and LTIHP. In 1983, Temirgaliev T.K., Tolenbaev M.S., Zhunisbekov M.Sh., Zhandarbekov L.U. defended their candidate dissertations at MTI and KazPTI.
In 1985, due to the transfer of the head of the department, Candidate of Technical Sciences Tasbulatov Temirkhan Dzhumaseitovich, to the position of Dean of the HTF, the department was headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences Zhansagimov Bauyrzhan Zhamelyevich. In 1986, Zhansagimov B.J. was sent to Germany for a 1-year internship, and was subsequently released from duty due to his transfer to a position as a senior researcher.
In 1987-1992, the department was headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences Dzhunisbekov Mukhtar Shardarbekovich. During these years, the curricula of specialties were developed, and the material base was established. In 1991, students were admitted to the newly opened specialty 3603 — "Automation of Production and Technological Processes."
In 1992-1997, the department was headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Nurgali Mukhambetsagievich Aitzhanov; currently, he serves as an associate professor and lecturer at the "TE" department of AUES.
In 1997-2001, it was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Esenbay Ashimalievich Alpeisov. Due to a change of workplace, he served as the head of the department for accreditation of higher educational institutions at the Ministry of Education and Science of the RK, and is a professor at KazATU in Astana.
In the 1990s, specialized scientific personnel of the department moved to other institutions. Candidate of Technical Sciences Tasbolatov T.D. — Director of the Scientific-Methodological Center for Education in Almaty; Dosankulov J. — Head of the "Electrical Engineering" department of the Jambyl Hydro-Melioration Construction Institute, currently a responsible worker of the Jambyl division of RGP "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy"; others moved to different higher educational institutions and departments: Zhansagimov B.J. (AILPP), Zhandarbekov L.U., Esimbaev O.J. (moved to the EIASH department).
In 2001, the "Technical Cybernetics" department was formed on the basis of the "Automation and Electrical Engineering" department, and from this year, Professor Dzhunisbekov Mukhtar Shardarbekovich led the department.
In 2009-2010, work on expansion into the specialties "Electric Power Engineering" and "Physics" was carried out, and they were included in the department structure. Due to the increased teaching load of the "Technical Cybernetics" department, a rector's order was issued on 01.09.2012 regarding the necessity of dividing it into three departments:
The "Technical Cybernetics" department under the Institute of Oil and Gas Business and Mechanics was renamed the "Automation and Telecommunications" department; the "Physics" department and the "Electric Power Engineering" department were established.
Currently, the department of "Automation and Telecommunications" prepares bachelors in 3 EPs (Educational Programs) and 1 EP for Master's degree.
6B07122 — "Automation and Informatization in Control Systems"
6B06211 — "Multichannel Fiber-Optic Networks and Communication Systems"
6B07107 — Digital Electric Power Engineering
7M07117 — "Automation and Control" (2 years, scientific-pedagogical direction)
Currently, the faculty and teaching staff total 14, consisting of 5 candidates, 5 PhD doctors, and 4 masters.

Within the framework of dual education, students:
- undergo industrial and pre-diploma internships at partner enterprises;
- participate in the implementation of real industrial and technological projects;
- work with modern equipment and software;
- study current standards, regulations, and corporate processes.
At the enterprises, students are assigned mentors from among experienced specialists, while the department appoints academic supervisors who provide methodological support and monitor the implementation of the educational program.
