Professional biography/Education

Dr. Marzhan S. Kalmakhanova is an Associate Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Technology at Taraz University named after M.Kh. Dulaty, Kazakhstan.  Her research focuses on the synthesis, modification, and characterization of advanced adsorbent materials, including biochar and activated carbons derived from agricultural biomass, for the removal of heavy metals and contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) from wastewater and groundwater. Dr. Kalmakhanova has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and conference proceedings. According to Scopus, her current h-index is 7, reflecting the impact and citation of her research contributions in environmental science and chemical engineering. She has completed research internships at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, University of Barcelona, University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Complutense University of Madrid, and D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Dr. Kalmakhanova has successfully managed national and international research projects and currently supervises five PhD students. Her work contributes to the development of sustainable and cost-effective solutions for water purification and environmental protection in Kazakhstan.
